School Field Trips

Just another reason to visit Derg Isle is for our school field trips.

Our location is in the immediate vicinity of the Lough Derg “S.P.A” (‘Special Protected Area’). We are fortunate to have such an abundance of flora, fauna and wildlife in the natural environment. Our field trips are an important means of educating future generations about the importance of nature and the critical need to protect it. Our field trips can be aligned with the objectives of both primary & secondary curricula.

Visitors to Derg Isle can frequently see our resident Kingfisher family of birds as well as Mallard Duck, Tufted Duck, Mute Swan, Little Grebe, the Crested Grebe, Cormorant, Whimbrel, Common Tern and the Coot. Visitors have also sighted the famous Lough Derg Eagles fly around Scariff Bay.

TY & Youth Groups

TY Gourps

Like our school tour visitors over the year, Derg Isle is a firm favourite on the calendar with LCA, Youth and Foroige groups across the Midwest and further afield.

Our activities are a fun day out, while also being challenged in areas of teamwork, communication, leadership, self confidence, accountability, responsibility, assertiveness, emotional control, self awareness,  and so much more.

We set our activity days with this in mind and we are always amazed the progress that groups can make in such a short period of time. We are confident in setting the challenges for the group or we are happy to work with the youth group leaders to design a bespoke package that will impart valuable life skills to your participants.

Scouts Groups & Outings

Scouting Ireland

Local Scouts troupes have always enjoyed their trip to Derg Isle. Perched on an 18acre site overlooking Lough Derg we are the perfect location for a camp out or jamboree. Our site is secure and set off the road to ensure privacy yet offers an “Aladdins cave” of activities. Scout leaders have also provided us with excellent feedback and we are delighted to welcome more and more groups each year as our scout tailored activities increasing meet the groups needs.
